How to Measure Your Project Area ?

Accurate measurements are the biggest factor in an accurate estimate.

What you need

A tape measure or measuring wheel, stakes or string, and a notepad or phone.

Common shapes

Shape	Area
Rectangle	length × width
Triangle	½ × base × height
Circle	3.14 × radius × radius

Irregular areas

1. Sketch the area and split it into rectangles, triangles and circles.
2. Measure and calculate each part.
3. Add the parts together. Subtract anything inside that won’t be covered, like a tree ring.

Tips

• Measure twice and write down units.
• Measure depth separately, in inches.
• For curves, use several short straight segments.
